Etiology and Prevalence
While
urticaria and
angioedema are common problems, affecting nearly 20% of the population,
hereditary
angioedema (HAE) is a rare disorder, accounting for only 2% of clinical
angioedema cases. Worldwide, the incidence of HAE is approximately 1 in 30,000 to
50,000 persons.7,9
HAE affects all ethnic groups, with no recognizable racial predilection. And as
an
autosomal dominant inheritable genetic disorder, neither sex predominates.1
